Rural Halton Hills
History:
Rural Halton Hills was part of the former Esquesing Township which consisted of a collection of pioneer hamlets including: Ashgrove, Ballinafad, Bannockburn, Hornby, Limehouse, Speyside and Whaley’s Corners. These were largely farming communities that were overshadowed by the much more prosperous neighbouring communities of Acton and Georgetown.
Overview:
Rural Halton Hills is brimming with farms that produce an abundance of fruits and vegetables and even maple syrup and wine. These farms are interconnected with the Greater Halton Hill community by Simply Local a town of Halton Hills initiative that encourages residents to buy local produce by attending farm to table markets like the Georgetown Farmers Market. Some of these farms invite the public to get out and exercise and pick their own produce. In addition to agricultural farms Rural Halton Hills also boasts horticultural farms, equine farms and livestock farms. Rural Halton Hills is situated in Escarpment Country and is known for its vast conservation areas which feature numerous opportunities to enjoy nature and the outdoors. Hiking and cycling are especially popular recreational activities in the Halton Hills countryside. Cyclists in particular enjoy travelling the Greenbelt Route, a mostly on-road trail through rural Halton Hills. Â Passing through the rural routes of the town you will see historical roadside markers for once thriving Halton Hills hamlets including: Ashgrove, Ballinafad, Bannockburn, Henderson’s Corners, Hornby, Speyside, Silver Creek and Whaley’s Corners.
Lifestyle:
