Scarborough amalgamated with the City of Toronto in 1998. It now forms the eastern boundary of the City stretching all the way from Lake Ontario in the south to the City of Markham to the north. The Rouge River Valley forms a green corridor to the east. Scarborough which once seemed apart is now very connected. Highway 401 runs through the middle of Scarborough. Subway lines on Eglinton and Sheppard Avenues make Scarborough seem close to everywhere.

Scarborough is not as densely populated as many parts of the City. It is brimming with parks and ravine land. The expansive University of Toronto Scarborough campus occupies 300 acres of land in the heart of Scarborough. Neighbourhoods such as Agincourt, Highland Creek, West Hill, and Wexford have proud histories and promising futures as welcoming centres for many new Canadians.
