Tyandaga
History:
The Tyandaga neighbourhood was developed around the Tyandaga golf club founded in 1963. Both the club and the neighbourhood name are derived from Thayendanagea the First Nations name for Chief Joseph Brant the illustrious Mohawk leader who settled in Burlington in the latter years of his life.
Overview:
Tyandaga is an executive neighbourhood situated on the scenic hills of the Niagara Escarpment. The wide traffic calmed streets are pedestrian and cyclist friendly. The sidewalks are shaded by mature trees. There is an abundance of greenspace in this neighbourhood. Tyandaga Golf Course is situated right in the middle of the neighbourhood. The Tyandaga Tennis Club is located adjacent to the golf course. Both the golf and tennis clubs are public facilities.
Lifestyle:
Burlington Power Centre located at 1250 Brant Street is anchored by a Sobeys Grocery Store, Indigo and Silver City Movie Theatre. And right next door are Costco and Best Buy.
Homes:
Tyandaga features executive homes in a variety of styles including: Georgian, Colonial, Tudor and Cape Cod. These homes are situated on expansive lots. Many have attached two car garages. There are also pockets of smaller townhomes on the outer reaches of this neighbourhood that are popular with retirees.
Recreation:
Tyandaga Golf Course located in Escarpment country features lots of rolling hills and pretty fairways. This is a municipal run golf course owned by the City of Burlington. You can take golf lessons here or if more advanced play in leagues and tournaments. Next to the golf course on Tyandaga Drive is the Tyandaga Tennis Club. This community tennis club features 4 hard courts and offers programs for children as well as adults and all levels of players.
Arts:
The Art Gallery of Burlington is located at 1333 Lakeshore Road in the heart of Burlington’s downtown waterfront. This contemporary gallery is a  multi-faceted centre that is the home base for 7 different artists guilds operating within the City of Burlington. The AGB also provides studio space for local artists, as well as hosting a myriad of exhibitions, lectures and events and running school programs. The AGB is especially known for its ceramic collection.
The Burlington Performing Arts Centre is a city landmark and source of civic pride. This landmark centre occupies a high profile position in the downtown core at the corner of Locust and Elgin Streets. The Burlington Performing Arts Centre is comprised of two theatres; the larger Main Theatre has world-class acoustics and an orchestra pit. It is ideal for theatrical and musical performances and seats 718 people. The more intimate Community Theatre is ideal for smaller scale productions. It seats 225 people.
