Alton Village
History:
The present day Alton Village neighbourhood is named after Thomas Alton who emigrated to Burlington in 1819 from Westmoreland, England. Alton was industrious and soon amassed 1250 acres of land. Thomas Alton married Charlotte Cleaver and they had 16 children. The Thomas Alton Farmhouse, circa 1860, is still standing at Thomas Alton Boulevard. This Ontario vernacular farmhouse is symbolic of the farming community that once dotted this landscape. The Thomas Alton Farmhouse is designated under the Ontario Heritage Act and is privately owned.
