Aldershot
History:
Aldershot’s prime location situated between the Niagara Escarpment to the north and Burlington Bay to the south made this area popular with First Nations well before the first european settlers began arriving in the 1790s. The first of these new settlers was William Applegarth of England who was granted a parcel of land by the Crown. Applegarth is credited with coming up with the name Aldershot, in memory of his hometown. By the 1900s Aldershot had emerged as a leading fruit grower, exporting this harvest across North America. Formerly part of East Flamborough Township, Aldershot was annexed by the City of Burlington in 1958. By the 1960s most of the farms in Aldershot had been sold to developers to make room for residential development.
