An art enthusiast’s weekend getaway in Georgina, Ontario
*PLEASE SOCIAL DISTANCE AND WEAR A MASK AND USE HAND SANITIZER
Take an art adventure at the Georgina’s Studio Tour, surrounded by spectacular autumn colours in one of York Region’s most picturesque settings. The event has been showcasing Georgina’s rich culture and talented artists for more than 25 years and offers a unique opportunity for art enthusiasts to visit artist’s studios. You’ll learn how the creative process evolves from an idea to something that will add beauty and ambiance to any collector’s home.
The tour stops have works of art representing an array of mediums including glass, paint, pottery, sculpture, woodwork, quilting, mixed media, and more. Five locations on the tour bring artists together, such as Homestead Orchards, where you can experience farm-fresh products and sweet goods from the bakery. You’ll also find indigenous art from local artists at the Georgina Art Centre and Gallery.
While you feed your creative soul, you can stop in for something to eat at one of the many dining options throughout our historic downtowns in Jackson’s Point, Keswick and Sutton. A seasonal pumpkin spiced latte, from Elpida Cafe & Roastery in Keswick or Black River Coffee in Sutton, should give you some extra energy to fit a few more tour stops. Finish your day off in a traditional English pub – Lake Simcoe Arms, with the soup of the day or maybe some shepherd’s pie.
With 24 artists and artisans to visit, there is a lot to experience. To see it all and make a weekend of it, visitors can take advantage of studio tour packages at The Briars Resort & Spa and Ramada Jackson’s Point Resort, both located on the water in Ontario’s “first cottage-country.”
To ensure everyone’s safety during the tour, event organizers request that you wear your mask indoors, use hand sanitizer and practise social distancing.
Many residents and visitors look forward to the tour every year and are pleased to see it return this year. Mayor Margaret Quirk says, “For many years I have enjoyed going on the Georgina Studio Tour, often buying something for myself or for gifts. I am glad to see the tour continue this year, as I know they have worked hard to ensure the proper safety protocols are in place due to COVID-19. I look forward to checking out this year’s tour!”
