Keswick South "Jersey"
History:
Keswick South was originally part of the Town of North Gwillimbury that shared municipal services with Georgina up until the mid 1800s. This part of North Gwillimbury was known as the Village of Jersey, which is the historic and accurate name for this community. The Jersey House hotel was a popular stopover for merchants travelling from Georgina to Newmarket. The original Jersey Public School opened in 1870. At that time the Maskinonge River was sometimes referred to by the locals as the Jersey River. There were multiple saw mills that once operated on this river.
Overview:
Keswick South is Georgina’s most populated and urbanized neighbourhood. It is situated in the southwestern part of the township along the western shore of Lake Simcoe overlooking Cook Bay. The Maskinonge River winds its way through the Maskinonge commercial urban corridor in South Keswick. The Queensway South, Metro Road and Morton Street is the dividing line between North and South Keswick. This intersection is known locally as the five corners. The environmentally significant Keswick Marsh located at the extreme southern portion of Keswick is part of the Holland Marsh, commonly referred to as the breadbasket of Ontario. Keswick South is an affordable option for young families living in the GTA who want to enjoy the great outdoors and partake in all the wonderful activities that this waterfront community has to offer.
Lifestyle:
The Queensway South is lined with fast food outlets, restaurants small shopping plazas, a large grocery store, a home hardware and a medical plaza. You can pretty much find all the essential households needs along this strip. There are also a number of marinas that offer various sales and service for the boating community.
Woodbine Avenue offers an additional nearby shopping option including the Walmart Keswick Supercentre, Staples, Loblaws, Canadian Tire, Zehrs, McDonalds and more.
Homes:
Simcoe Landing is a master-planned new home community consisting of detached houses with a selection  of 36′, 45′, and 50′ frontages with both traditional and contemporary home designs that are well suited to families. South Keswick also has subdivisions from the 1960s and 70s and 80s that contain a mix of ranch style bungalows, split-level homes and colonial revival homes. There are also a number of townhouse communities. The homes along Lake Drive South command a premium with their direct waterfront views. Most of these are frame bungalows on spacious lots however these are gradually being replaced by new infill homes. Noteworthy is the Wyndhurst Beach community which has especially charming homes and cottages that are just steps from the lake.
Recreation:
Krates marina is one of the largest marinas in Georgina. Launch your boat here and spend the day boating, fishing and swimming on Lake Simcoe.
Looking for greenspace. You will find plenty of that in South Keswick. Try Bayview Park, Kingsway Garden or Oakmeadow Park.
Arts:
Stephen Leacock Theatre is the arts hub of this community. Here you will find comedic, drama and musical performances from both local and national artists. The theatre also hosts summer film and drama camps. It is also the home of the Queensville Players who stage live theatre performances throughout the year.
