History:
James Lloyd was the first recorded landowner in this area. He was among a large contingent of Quaker families that emigrated to Canada in the early 1800s. Lloyd was not only a prolific landowner in the area but he was also a patriarch of nine children whose sons were described as “men of sterling integrity and counted among them a Justice of the peace, a doctor a dentist, a politician and a mounted police officer
Overview:
Aurora Estates as its name would imply; is a picturesque collection of estate home communities located on the edges of the magnificent Oak Ridges Moraine. Hunters Glen located east off Yonge Street and Elderberry Trail located west off Yonge Street are the two signature communities in this neighbourhood. The communities consist of magnificent gated mansions on multi-acreage wooded lots. Aurora Estates shares its south border with the municipality of Richmond Hill. The north portion of this exclusive neighbourhood includes Beacon Hall Golf Club, and the historic Aurora Cemetery. Tucked away on dedicated separate roads within the neighbourhood are a number of institutions including: Willows Estate Nursing Home, Ontario Provincial Police Highway Safety Division headquarters, Ontario Streams management office, Service Ontario government office, the York Catholic District School Board, Cardinal Carter Catholic High School and Child Care Centre, and E’cole Secondaire Catholique Renaissance.
Aurora Estates newer signature communities include: Allure At The Gates of Aurora, Wycliffe Gardens, Beacon Hall, Ascot Park Elderberry Hill and Renaissance. Soon to be added to this mix are Princeton Heights a limited collection of custom estate homes and Le Triomphe a French-inspired luxury boutique condominium.

There are plenty of shopping options up and down Yonge Street which serves as the Main Street in Aurora. There a re a plethora of shopping plazas to choose from. Aurora Shopping Centre located at 14800 Yonge Street features over thirty merchants including a large supermarket. Smart Centres Aurora located at 14760 Yonge Street is anchored by Winners and State & Main Kitchen & Bar.

Aurora Estates has the largest number of luxury estate homes in Aurora. Many of these homes are situated on one or two acre lots that are well treed and perched atop a hill with magnificent vistas of the bucolic country setting. The former Highland Gate Golf Course is now being redeveloped into a new residential community called Allegro that will include 159 homes and feature walking trails and large homes on 50 and 60 foot lots surrounded by towering trees preserved from the former golf course. Recreation:
The Holland River Valley Trail which is part of the Nokiidaa Trail System, that winds its way through the neighbourhood providing numerous recreational opportunities. David English Park has two tennis courts, a children’s playground and a walking path. Beacon Hall Golf Club between Yonge Street and Bayview Avenue is a private members club. Bloomington Downs Golf Club located on the southeast corner of Bayview Avenue and Bloomington Road is a public course that offers a number of activities including an 18 hole par 72 golf course, an 18 hole miniature golf course, a five station batting cage (set up for both softball and hardball), a large floodlit driving range with a combination of both artificial turf and grass tees, practice sand traps, putting greens and a licensed snack bar with outside patio area.
The Aurora Cultural Centre is located at 22 Church Street in a magnificent 1886 heritage building that was the former home of the Aurora Public School. This community arts hub includes four show galleries as well as a wide range of instructional classes for all ages, a live music series, special family events, and a summer arts camps.
