History:

This neighbourhood takes its name from Hurontario the main arterial roadway that runs through this neighbourhood. This historic street, albeit under various names and configurations runs all the way from the Lakeshore Road in Port Credit, north to Collingwood in Simcoe County. This stretch of Hurontario was farmland until the present day neighbourhood was developed in the late 1980s.

The last vestige of rural Hurontario can be seen at Brittania Farm a 200-acre green space, bordered by Hurontario St., Bristol Rd., McLaughlin Rd. and Matheson Blvd., and owned in trust by the Peel District School Board for educational use. This site features an old farmhouse, time-weathered barn, a gentleman’s Georgian homestead and a historic schoolhouse.

Overview:

There is still a fair amount of new home construction taking place in this neighbourhood which has a high population desnsity with so many condominium buildings and townhomes packed into a relatively small area. This is not a stop and smell the roses neighbourhood, this is a hustle and bustle neighbourhood that enjoys the convenience of being situated close to all the amenities at the nearby Mississauga City Centre which is situated just to the south of Hurontario. Easy access to Highway 401 make this neighbourhood an ideal choice for commuters.

Lifestyle:

Heartland Town Centre located at Mavis and Brittania is an outdoor shopping centre occupies 2,200,000 square feet of space and has 180 stores, making it is one of Canada’s largest malls. There are also smaller shopping plazas in Hurontario located along the major arterial streets that offer convenience type stores as well as restaurants and food shops that reflect the cultural diversity of this neighbourhood.

Homes:

Hurontario features typical subdivision style homes that include three or four bedrooms, a decent size backyard and a driveway with a garage out front. These houses have brick veneers with front facing gables and sometimes a patterned brickwork. The types of homes availalble in Hurontario include detached. semi-detached and two and three storey townhomes.

Recreation:

Courtenay Park Living Arts Centre located at 730 Courtneypark Dr. W, offers yoga, pilates, karate, volleyball, badminton, basketball, tennis, soccer, track and field, and more.

Arts:

Courtneypark Library and Active Living Centre located at 730 Courtneypark Dr. W, doubles as a community library, and school library for St. Marcellinus School. This multi-purpose facility is also an Active Living Centre.

The Mississauga Living Arts Centre is located just a few minutes south of here in the City Centre neighbourhood.
