Cataract
History:
In 1858 Richard Church of Cooksville in Mississauga purchased this land with the hopes of creating a small village.. That never came to pass however when the post office opened in 1864 it was Church as official postmaster who chose the name Cataract. This name was also used by the Credit Valley Railway when they opened a station here in 1879. Canadian Pacific later took over this line which operated until 1987 when the Cataract station was demolished and faded into the history books. But why the name Cataract in the first place ? Cataract is another word for waterfall and we know there are a few of those nearby at the Forks of the Credit River, thus the origin of the name.
