Caledon Village
History:
Caledon Village was formerly known as Charleston. Charleston was known for its civic prominence. This is where Caledon Township held its public meetings and court hearings. Agricultural Society fairs were also held here on an annual basis. The Caledon Township Agricultural Fair is still held in this village every year in June.
Apparently some confusion arose over the Charleston name in respect to mail delivery and the post office. It seems there was already another Charleston in Illinois, not to mention Charleston, South Carolina. Whatever the issue by the mid 1800s the Charleston name was still in use but the post office name had been changed to Caledon. When Caledon Township was formed in 1974 further confusion arose and so the the word Village was affixed to Caledon to form Caledon Village and there you have the rather complicated history of the naming of this village.
