Scott
History:
The Scott neighbourhood came into existence as part of the Sherwood Survey Secondary Plan developed in 2004. The Sherwood Survey was Milton’s first foray into building new urban neighbourhoods and included the Milton Heights neighbourhood to the north and the Harrison and Wilmot neighbourhoods to the south. The name Scott was chosen to commemorate William Scott the first landowner in this area. Scott emigrated to Milton in 1821 on concession 1, lot 14. He was a farmer and likely held in high regard as Milton was known far and wide for its excellent farms.
Overview:
Scott is a large newer neighbourhood built on the western edges of Milton’s urban core. The Niagara Escarpment views to the west are spectacular. This is a family friendly neighbourhood with bicycle lanes, neighbourhood parks and schools. Scott neighbourhood Park East and West provide a nice amount of greenspace in their respective parts of the neighbourhood. A CN Railway lines serves as the east boundary for the neighbourhood and Tremaine Road is the west boundary. To the north and west are rural farmland and conservation areas for as far as the eye can see.
Homes:
Scott has a mix of detached and semi-detached homes with a nice variety of brick, stone and siding exteriors. The houses feature traditional architectural designs with columned front porches, front facing gabled roofs, single or double car built-in garages and nicely landscaped gardens. The lots are wide but not overly deep. Some houses have second floor porches which add an air of grandeur to these homes.
Arts:
The FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton located at 1010 Main Street East is an ultra modern facility where the arts flourish in the form of performances, a myriad of events, art exhibitions and community based programming for all ages. The Holcim Gallery situated inside the Arts Centre spotlights an eclectic mix of art exhibitions encompassing a variety of art mediums. There are new exhibitions every month throughout the year.
