Mountain View
History:
The older section of the Mountain View neighbourhood is situated along Woodward Avenue. These homes date to the 1930s and 40s. The rest of the neighbourhood was developed in the 1950s. The Mountain View name makes reference to the magnificent views of the Niagara Escarpment to the west.
Overview:
Mountain View is one of the older neighbourhoods in Milton. It is situated just north of the Old Milton neighbourhood at the northwest section of Milton’s urban core. What makes this neighbourhood special are the commanding views of the Niagara Escarpment to the west. This is a small neighbourhood bounded by Steeles Avenue on the north, Woodward Avenue on the south, Ontario Street on the east and Martin Street to the west. There is small creek that winds through the neighbourhood and a Go Train rail line just to the south. Martin Street Public School is a popular drawing card for this neighbourhood.
Homes:
Mountain View’s oldest houses situated along Woodward Avenue are Edwardian and Craftsman style homes from the early 1900s. The bulk of the houses are ranch bungalows built in the 1960s. There are also pockets of newer detached two-storey homes from the 1980s and 90s.
Arts:
The FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton located at 1010 Main Street East is an ultra modern facility where the arts flourish in the form of performances, a myriad of events, art exhibitions and community based programming for all ages. The Holcim Gallery situated inside the Arts Centre spotlights an eclectic mix of art exhibitions encompassing a variety of art mediums. There are new exhibitions every month throughout the year.
