Fallingbrook
History:
Fallingbrook was developed in the 1950s. It has the distinction of being just the second urban neighbourhood (Mountain View was the first) developed outside the Old Milton neighbourhood. Fallingbrook was a natural choice for a name as it literally makes reference to the topographical features of this neighbourhood which is quite hilly and traversed by Sixteen Mile Creek.
Overview:
The Fallinbrook neighbourhood is situated just south of Old Milton between Ontario Street and Bronte Road. This is a mature and well treed neighbourhood with expansive lots. The topography is a little hilly with long winding streets. Fallingbrook includes a small forested enclave of homes known as Forest Grove situated on a handful of streets in the northeast pocket of this neighbourhood. Neighbourhood landmarks include Milton District High School, Bronte Meadows Park and the John Tonelli Sports Centre. Fallingbrook shares a seamless boundary with the Bronte Meadows neighbourhood to the south and the Old Milton neighbourhood to the north.
Lifestyle:
The downtown Milton business district along Main Street is one of the prettiest shopping destinations in the GTA. The hilly topography only adds to the backdrop which is simply perfect with excellent views of the Niagara Escarpment in the distance. A number of events and festivals are held here throughout the year. The Milton Chamber of Commerce Farmer’s Market is held here weekly from May to September on Saturday mornings from 7 am until noon.
Homes:
Fallingbrook housing stock consists largely of bungalows and one-and-a-half storey homes on generous size lots. There are also clusters of older townhomes along Ontario Street. The Forest Grove enclave located in the northeast pocket of the neighbourhood is heavily treed and features mostly ranch-style bungalows on premium lots.
Recreation:
Bronte Meadows Park is a large greenspace situated in the middle of the neighbourhood that provides a myriad of recreational options for residents of this neighbourhood. These include two tennis courts, a baseball diamond, a basketball court, children’s playground and a splash pad. Adjacent to the Bronte Meadows Park is the John Tonelli sports centre that has a single pad ice rink that is used for organized and recreational hockey as well as pleasure skating.
Arts:
The FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton located at 1010 Main Street East is an ultra modern facility where the arts flourish in the form of performances, a myriad of events, art exhibitions and community based programming for all ages. The Holcim Gallery situated inside the Arts Centre spotlights an eclectic mix of art exhibitions encompassing a variety of art mediums. There are new exhibitions every month throughout the year.
