Brookville
History:
Brockville was originally part of Nassagaweya Township a once thriving rural township in Halton Region. (Nassagaweya amalgamated with the Town of Milton in 1974) The name of this former township was a First Nations word meaning “river with two outlets” referring to the local watershed of streams and creeks that criss-cross the area.
Brookville a hamlet within Nassagaweya was first settled in 1831 by Elias and Joan Easterbrook who emigrated to Canada from England. The Brookville name was an adaptation of the Easterbrook surname. Their son Thomas Easterbrook built a general store and hotel literally putting Brookville on the map. Thomas Easterbrook served the hamlet as postmaster for many years.
By the late 1800s Brookville had erected a Town Hall. The division courts for Halton Region were held here. Brookville was a social rub for this rural farming community as it hosted the annual Nassagaweya Fall Show attended by all the families in the township. In the early 2000s Brookville entered a new era with the development of Churchill Estates, a luxury new home development which has once gain put this community on the map.
