Although more women and gender-diverse artists & curators have become established in recent years, public art has traditionally been – and continues to be – a (mostly white) male-dominated field, full of barriers and challenges for gender-diverse artists. Luminato Festival Toronto’s 2023 programming celebrates the vital importance of women and girls onto the global quest for justice, and puts a 10 year old Syrian refugee girl at the centre of a conversation around public art. This panel discussion & gathering features expert guests from festival partners MASSIVart and leaders in the Toronto public art community, responding to the recent findings of the national Walls for All community consultation process.
