This spring, ECC presents a program that blends choral music with jazz rhythms and pure blues harmonies. Delight in Will Todd’s jazz Mass in Blue, composed in 2003 – an acclaimed piece that pulls together the driving energy of jazz and the ethereality of the divine. The choir will be accompanied by a combo of piano, drums, bass and saxophone.
The evening’s program includes Duke Ellington’s iconic composition Caravan in a hot Latin and jazz inspired arrangement by Paris Rutherford. Our lead singers will perform Cheek to Cheek, the classic Irving Berlin jazz standard, as well as Manning Sherwin’s A Nightingale Sang in Berkley Square from 1939. In a blend of traditional and jazz harmonies and inspired by the words of William Shakespeare, Songs and Sonnets by George Shearing explores a range of moods and ideas through a tuneful and spirited lens.
