Celebrate the legacy of CBC’s flagship literary program, Writers & Company, at this special onstage event. Join host Eleanor Wachtel for a live taping of the show’s last original episode, in honour of its 33-year history and her esteemed broadcasting career, spanning more than four decades. Since launching in 1990, Writers & Company has earned wide acclaim for its in-depth interviews with the world’s most brilliant and exceptional writers, artists and thinkers. Don’t miss this opportunity to send off the show in style and be part of history in the making. The live event will be recorded for Writers & Company’s last original broadcast in late June.
Joining Eleanor onstage will be Matt Galloway, host of CBC’s The Current, along with novelists Gary Shteyngart and Brandon Taylor.
Gary Shteyngart was born in Leningrad and emigrated to the U.S. in 1979, at age seven. He’s mined his Soviet upbringing and immigrant experience in his prize-winning satirical fiction—including The Russian Debutante’s Handbook, Absurdistan and Super Sad True Love Story—as well as his comic and poignant memoir, Little Failure. His latest novel is Our Country Friends.
Brandon Taylor’s exciting 2020 debut novel, Real Life—shortlisted for the Booker Prize—drew on his upbringing in rural Alabama and his experience as a queer Black graduate student in the Midwest. His bestselling story collection, Filthy Animals, was shortlisted for the Dylan Thomas Prize. Taylor has just published a new novel, The Late Americans.
