Rural Whitby
History:
The first settlers in this area where mostly families of English and Irish descent. These pioneers cleared the dense forest established homesteads and built working farms in order to sustain their families. A few industrious and entrepreneurial individuals harnessed the local creeks by setting up saw and grist mills which were the focal points of the community.
Overview:
Rural Whitby is comprised of Agricultural farms as well as conservation areas and golf courses. Rural Whitby is part of the Oak Ridges Moraine and Ontario Greenbelt.
