Myrtle
History:
Myrtle, was originally known as Well’s Corners. In 1856, the name of the community was changed to Wellwood and sometime in the 1860s the name of this community was changed again likely coinciding with the opening of the village post office. By the mid to late 1800s Myrtle had a post office and general store, a school, a church and some businesses. This hamlet has never lost its rural roots In 1968, Myrtle became part of the Town of Whitby when the Town amalgamated with Whitby Township.
Overview:
Myrtle is a pretty rural hamlet situated in the northeastern section of the Town of Whitby. This small community is centred along Myrtle Road. Produce farms and garden centres are the main landmarks. The 407 ETR is easily accessed form here making Myrtle an ideal option for commuters who want to live outside the City.
Homes:
Myrtle has a mix of bungalows and detached houses on mature tree-lined streets. The housing stock is older but very well maintained.
Recreation:
Cycling is a popular recreational activity as Myrtle Streets follow the Green Belt Route. There are plenty of golf courses nearby as well as cross-country and downhill skiing options.
