The Neighbourhoods of Windfields Farm
History:
Windfields has a rich history that dates back to the 1930s when it was known as Parkwood Stables a successful horse racing farm owned by Colonel Robert Samuel McLaughlin. McLaughlin was the founder of the McLaughlin Motor Company which would later become General Motors Canada. In 1950 McLaughlin sold his beloved farm to the wealthy industrialist E.P. Taylor. The horse farm then became known as Windfields Farm after Taylor’s successful thoroughbred farming operation, originally located in Toronto’s Bridle Path neighbourhood. Windfields Farm would emerge as one of the largest and most successful horse farms in the world. Windfields Farm was best known as the birthplace of Northern Dancer, Canada’s first Kentucky Derby winner and one of the most prolific sires in horse racing history. In the early 2000s the Taylor family saw the writing on the wall for their illustrious farm with urban sprawl encroaching on their doorstep. The Taylor family chose Tribute Homes to develop Neighbourhoods of Windfields Farm. The first homes in this new residential development were built in 2004.
