ONeill
History:
O’Neill is one of Oshawa’s oldest neighbourhoods. It is named after Albert O’Neill the former long serving principle at O’Neill Collegiate and Vocational Institute which is situated on Simcoe Street North. O’Neill Collegiate was founded in 1909 when it was known as Oshawa High School. This is the oldest high school in the City of Oshawa.
Overview:
O’Neill is located right in the middle of Oshawa just north of the downtown core. The Oshawa Creek forms the western boundary of the neighbourhood. O’Neill neighbourhood landmarks include the historic Parkwood Estate, Lakeridge Health Oshawa Hospital, Durham Courthouse and the Oshawa Curling Club. O’Neill is one of Oshawa’s older neighbourhoods with leafy tree-lined streets and charming Edwardian, Tudor  and Arts and Crafts style houses.
Lifestyle:
The Oshawa Gateway Shopping Centre on Ritson Road features popular shopping destinations such as: Costco, No Frills, Dollarama, Bulk Barn and the LCBO. There are also banks restaurants and professional services at this centre.
Homes:
The O’Neill neighbourhood contains some of the older and prettier houses in Oshawa. These include detached homes on well trend lots with popular architectural styles from the early 1900s including Arts and Crafts, Edwardian and Tudor styles. Many of these house have pretty brick exteriors front porches or alcoves with front facing gabled roofs. There are also streets within the neighbourhood that include mid century homes including ranch-style bungalows and split-level homes.
Recreation:
The YMCA located at 99 Mary Street is a neighbourhood hub and features a basketball court, swimming pool, and fitness centre. The Oshawa Golf and Curling Club is a private club that forms the western boundary of the neighbourhood.
Arts:
The Robert McLaughlin Gallery has an excellent Canadian art collection. This is a primary arts hub in Oshawa that offers arts programs for all ages and abilities.
