August 23rd Saturday, 7:30PM, Westminster United Church: “A Journey into Cabaret and Broadway
American composer and pianist Paul Schoenfield enjoyed performing cabaret music with friends in a café in Minneapolis, which inspired his popular trio “Café Music.” Also on the program are the showpieces. various arrangements of Porgy and Bess by Gershwin and Four Broadway Showtunes by Prutsman. The program culminates in one of the great chamber works that blend lyrical folk idioms with formal sophistication. Its sweeping melodies, rhythmic vitality, and rich harmonic palette offer a deeply satisfying close to a program that celebrates both the intimacy and grandeur of chamber music.
