Arts and culture go hand in hand. Culture is incomplete without music or the visual arts, while art conveys the spirit and identity of a people and their culture.
Immerse yourself in the sounds and sights of arts and culture from Taiwan, Indonesia, and Malaysia at TAIWANfest as we return to Harbourfront Centre, Toronto this August 26 to 28 to hear, taste, and see the Stories of Independence.
Alongside the TAIWANfest Orchestra, Maestro Ken Hsieh will head the Stories of Independence concert, highlighting some of the musical sounds and stories that those in Taiwan and southeast Asia can connect to. Sit back for films at Cinematic Taiwan and watch a Montreal man return to his homeland of Malaysia to fight for an environmentalist cause in A Time to Swim, or see how the memory of political suppression lingers in the Taiwanese city of Kaohsiung in Taste of Wild Tomato. Move on to Let’s Savour Taiwan and learn about food through Instagrammable art depicting the bento box—a familiar and comforting sight to so many across Asia—showcasing a range of food items that highlight the island’s fresh, unique ingredients and diverse cultures.
