Cell Gallery: THE PAIN OF OLD WOUNDS works by Jose Maria Marcia.
This exhibition questions the ways we form relationships to the subject of the photograph. Photographs are brutal objects as photography is a brutal medium: it exacts detail and identity, freezes and crystalizes a moment for future examination, and unlike other art forms photography, requires the direct entanglement of the artist with the subject.
This exhibition seeks to explore the ways the artist might reconcile with the brutality of photography: interrogating the means by which we express brutal subject matter within an image and focuses on the essential tension between what is recorded in an image and how the image records.
